From Brahms to Blues: Music for Violin and Piano

Join us for an unforgettable evening of violin and piano music featuring diverse compositions the turn of the 20th century. Featuring the exceptional talents of Timothy Schwarz, violin and Thomas Weaver, piano, this recital promises an enchanting journey from Johannes Brahms , the romantic, to Maurice Ravel, the impressionist, to William Grant Still, the "dean of African-American composers." Please join us on November 5th at 5pm for our annual All Souls service, as we commemorate and give thanks for the faithful who have gone before us. The combined choirs of The Redeemer will offer Josef Rheinberger’s Requiem in d minor. Rheinberger was a prolific composer of sacred music from 19th century Liechtenstein, whose stylistic influences included Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Schumann. Unlike larger concerted settings, Rheinberger’s more restrained Requiem speaks with a poignant directness.

A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
The five choirs of The Redeemer will offer carols and hymns, interspersed with familiar nativity readings, in this traditional Christmas service.

Curtis student and Michael Stairs Organ Scholar and Assistant Organist
Alexander Leonardi plays works for organ and piano, showcasing pieces by lesser known and underplayed composers.
